Phlomoides tuberosa

Family: Lamiaceae

English name: Sage-leaf mullein

Collection Number: 36

Phlomoides tuberosa is a perennial plant native to Eurasia. While it is grazed by domesticated livestock, the leaves can also be consumed by people in parts of Central Asia. In Tibet and Mongolia, the aerial parts, crushed leaves, and roots are all variously used to treat a wide variety of ailments, including but not limited to diarrhea, dysentery, pneumonia, wounds, mastitis, arthritis, sore throats, etc. While many bioactive compounds have been identified in P. tuberosa and other plants in the Phlomis genus, less work has been done on the pharmacological impact of these compounds.
