Patrinia sibirica

Family: Caprifoliaceae

Mongolian name: Sibiri serkhleg

English name:

Collection Number: 4

This is a perennial with 15-20 cm tall stems and 6 mm yellow flowers, which tend to cluster. Also called Valeriana sibiricus, this plant is part of the Caprifoliaceae family. Species from the genus Patrinia have a documented history of use in Chinese medicine for treating fever, inflammation, and other conditions. Pharmacological analyses have shown that the genus has sedative, antibacterial, antivirus, and anti-tumor activities. Unlike the related species P. scabiosaefolia, P. sibirica does not have quite as specific of a role or history but given its scope and the shared pharmacological properties of the genus as a whole, it would be unsurprising if it were used medicinally in the past or present.
