Astragalus mongholicus is known in Mongolian as Mongol khunchir or Khunchir and in English as Mongolian milkvetch. It is a perennial native to temperate Asia, principally Mongolia and China. It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs to traditional Mongolian medicine, primarily take as a tea of the root, or pulverized root, stems and leaves in traditional prescriptions. It is used to treat moderate swelling, and to improve general energy and strength. Studies of its use in traditional Chinese medicine show that it may be beneficial in treating the autoimmune disease of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR).
